Designing AI-Powered Insights Dashboards

Designing Insights — a platform that enables school and district IT teams to easily explore and monitor usage across their institutions. The dashboard aggregates data from both software and ViewSonic interactive flat panels (IFPs), while AI-driven prompts allow users to personalize data collections and create dashboards tailored to their specific needs.

Challenges

As ViewSonic’s product ecosystem expanded and the number of users grew, our existing data dashboards could no longer meet their diverse needs. The real challenge was to design a solution that allows users to create and customize their own data blocks, ensuring flexibility and relevance across an increasingly complex mix of software and hardware products.

Limited flexibility and static data views: Existing dashboards couldn’t adapt to different user roles or evolving data needs.

Rising data complexity and fragmented sources: Rapid growth in software and hardware metrics made insights harder to visualize effectively.

Lack of customization and personalization tools: Users couldn’t tailor dashboards to their unique reporting goals or workflows.

AI Dashboard

AI Dashboard, an intelligent analytics feature that empowers users to generate customized dashboards through natural-language prompts. With just a few words, users can create tailored reports—such as software usage summaries, login trend analyses, or in-class interactive flat panel (IFP) activity insights.

After generating a dashboard, users can easily rearrange or resize data blocks within a flexible grid system, enabling a truly personalized and interactive data experience.

Besides AI dashboard, we also introduced DACO, our data consultant chatbot, to help users navigate dashboards more intuitively. DACO enables users to quickly access key metrics or jump directly to detailed dashboard views, making data exploration faster, smarter, and more effortless.

Outcomes

In 2024, the steady growth in the Entity user base and the rise in user retention reflect the platform’s expanding reach and improving user loyalty. More institutions adopted the system, while existing users continued to engage actively, demonstrating the product’s increasing value, usability, and alignment with real educational needs.
